The verdict
Is Chrysin worth taking?
Chrysin is a perfect case study in how a compound with a compelling laboratory mechanism can become commercially irrelevant the moment you look at actual human pharmacokinetics. In vitro, chrysin is a genuine aromatase inhibitor, blocking the enzyme that converts testosterone to estrogen. The problem is that oral chrysin has essentially zero meaningful bioavailability in humans due to rapid metabolism by intestinal and hepatic enzymes. It is metabolized almost entirely before reaching systemic circulation at commercially available doses. The in vitro mechanism is real. The human oral supplement is not delivering it to where it would need to go to work.
What it does
What Chrysin does in the body
Marketed as an aromatase inhibitor to block estrogen production and thereby increase testosterone. In vitro aromatase inhibition is well-documented. In the human body after oral ingestion at supplement doses, effective aromatase inhibition at relevant tissue sites does not occur due to near-complete first-pass metabolism before meaningful systemic concentrations are reached.
The evidence
What the research actually shows
Overhyped. A human pharmacokinetic study found plasma chrysin levels after oral supplementation were undetectable or negligible despite doses of 400 mg and above. A 2001 double-blind trial in healthy men found chrysin supplementation produced no significant changes in testosterone, estrogens, or luteinizing hormone versus placebo. The aromatase-inhibiting pharmaceutical drugs used in oncology work because they are specifically designed for oral bioavailability. Chrysin is not. Piperine-enhanced chrysin shows modest bioavailability improvement but still does not achieve clinically meaningful aromatase-inhibiting plasma concentrations.

Honey, propolis, and various fruits and vegetables contain chrysin naturally, but at concentrations that make the bioavailability problem even more significant than with concentrated supplements.
