Pycnogenol is one of the most clinically studied botanical extracts available, with over 160 published studies. It works across multiple pathways simultaneously: anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, nitric oxide support, collagen protection, and circulation enhancement. Take 100 to 200 mg daily with food. Genuine Pycnogenol from French maritime pine bark is the only verified research form. Generic pine bark extract is not equivalent regardless of how it is labeled. The trademark on the label is non-negotiable.

Anti-inflammatory activity, joint pain and stiffness reduction, nitric oxide synthesis support, antioxidant protection, circulation improvement, collagen protection, and skin health. Pycnogenol is a standardized extract from the bark of the French maritime pine tree containing a complex of procyanidins, bioflavonoids, and phenolic acids. It inhibits NF-kB inflammatory signaling, supports endothelial nitric oxide production, inhibits matrix metalloproteinases that break down collagen and cartilage, and provides broad-spectrum antioxidant activity across multiple simultaneously active pathways.

A well-designed trial in osteoarthritis patients showed significantly reduced pain, stiffness, and NSAID use after Pycnogenol supplementation. Circulation improvement and endothelial function support are also well evidenced. The breadth of studied applications reflects the multiple active pathways this extract simultaneously influences.
Food first
Getting Pycnogenol from food
Grape seed extract, cocoa flavanols, and dark berries contain procyanidins and similar bioflavonoid compounds to Pycnogenol but from different sources and in different composition ratios. Dark chocolate with 85% or higher cocoa content and red grape skins provide the closest dietary procyanidin analogs. These are genuinely health- supporting food choices but cannot replicate the specific compound profile and clinical evidence base of standardized Pycnogenol.
